Hong Kong’s elderly and disabled people should all bow down and thank the Transport Department for giving them a few extra seconds to cross busy roads. It is so kind of our transport officials to care about the elderly and disabled that every Hong Kong person should treat them like heroes. I am, of course, joking. Our transport officials are imbeciles (idiots, morons). Instead of treating them like heroes, every Hong Kong person should treat them like overpaid and underworked clowns with half a brain. I would like to use the worst expletives (bad language) to describe them but my editor won’t allow me to use expletives in my columns.
The Transport Department recently patted itself on the back (congratulated itself) for giving 3-4 extra seconds for the elderly and disabled to cross a busy road in North Point. But elderly and disabled people must first tap (touch) a device with their Octopus cards at the road crossing to get a few extra seconds. If enough elderly and disabled people use this new service, the Transport Department will try it out at eight other crossings in the next six months. Are these transport officials real people or are they clowns? Why do they need six months to find out if elderly and disabled people need more time to cross busy roads? Transport officials are insulting the elderly and disabled people by giving them just a few extra seconds to cross roads.
I have said many times before that the green light for traffic is much longer than the green light for pedestrians. The Transport Department cares only about traffic, not people. Several senior police officials recently told me they also have told the Transport Department pedestrians should be given more time to cross roads. The Transport Department’s chief engineer Wong Chi-hung said the elderly should only use the new service if they need to or it will slow down traffic. I was livid (very angry) when I read that. He cares more about traffic than the elderly. Transport Secretary Frank Chan Fan should delay no more in firing this halfwit (fool, idiot).
